The Trinity

God is one but in three persons. This doctrine is a mystery but is nevertheless true. We believe in God the Father, God the Son (Jesus Christ) and God the Holy Spirit, who are all one God.

Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ is fully God and fully man. He came to earth, was conceived of the virgin Mary, and healed many who were afflicted with diseases, sin, and by the devil. He was eventually crucified on a cross but rose again to life on the third day after his death.

Through his death and resurrection he took the sin of mankind upon Himself; He paid the price for sin on behalf of mankind; broke the power of Satan over mankind; and reconciled God and mankind so that all of us may know God personally.

The Bible

The Christian Bible is inspired by God and infallible. It is to be used to set all matters of doctrine and life for us today – as individuals and together as the Church. The phrase "The Bible plus nothing; the Bible minus nothing" sums up our belief that we should preach and live the whole counsel of God.

Acts 20:27 Deuteronomy 4:1-2 Mark 7:10-13

Humanity's Fall

Humanity chose to go its own way; to be out of relationship with God. This 'fall' resulted in sin and death entering the world. Because God must uphold justice he must judge all of us for our own sins. But because God is also love, he has reconciled mankind to Himself through the death and resurrection of Jesus.

Anyone who puts their trust (faith) in Jesus is judged as righteous and no longer as sinful. Those that reject God's offer will face eternal destruction.

Genesis 1:26, 2:15-17, 3:1-24 Romans 5

The Holy Spirit

We believe that the Holy Spirit – God Himself – lives in every Christian from the moment they put their faith in Jesus. We also believe that the Holy Spirit empowers Christians through dispensing numerous gifts to continue the work of Jesus in this world, which in the Bible is called 'The Kingdom'.

Apostolic Christianity

Jesus Christ commanded that his Church go and make disciples of all nations. This instruction is encapsulated in the word 'apostolic'. We are a church that works not only into our city but also into many nations of the world. We firmly believe that this is a core part of how Christianity should be lived out.

This is why we also partner with New Covenant Ministries International (NCMI), a trans-local ministry team that works into many nations.

Matthew 28:18-20 Mark 16:15-16

We Are People of Prayer

Scripture, in both Old and New Testaments, places a huge emphasis on prayer, and so do we, whether it is personal or group prayer, prayer meetings, or times of prayer and fasting.

Acts 1:1-4, 2:42, 4:24-31 1 Timothy 2:1-2 Colossians 4:12

Priesthood and Servanthood

We believe the church is a spiritual organism made up of all born-again believers, with Christ as the head. The priesthood is made up of the whole body and not just a few people who may be leaders or may be employed full-time at the church.

All of God's people should be doing the "work of the ministry" on a full time basis in their families, workplaces, schools, universities, etc.

1 Peter 2:9 Ephesians 2:10 1 Corinthians 12-14

Baptism

We believe that all Christians, once they put their faith in Jesus, should be baptised in water (full immersion) as a statement to others, themselves, and even Satan that they are now 'within Christ' and therefore no longer 'in sin' and death.

Romans 6:5-11

Communion

Jesus Christ instructed his followers to always remember Him through the breaking of bread. We call this 'communion' and regularly obey this ordinance in our meetings as a way to remember Christ's sacrifice and our unity as His body.

One Universal Church

The Church of Jesus Christ has a multitude of expressions but is nevertheless still one church as the Church is anyone who has a relationship with Jesus. This means we do not see ourselves in any exclusive way.

The purpose of the Church is to further Jesus' Kingdom by living as Jesus lived and making disciples of all nations.

Priority of the Nations

"All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you."

At Redemption Church, we embrace this wholeheartedly, realising that the 'nations' are not only across our borders but that they begin in our neighbourhoods.

Matthew 28:18-20 Mark 16:15-16

Friendship, Not Just Function

A strong value for us at Redemption Church is true fellowship, as we are brothers and sisters in the new covenant God has made with us through Jesus. Our relationships in the church go far beyond our interactions within the functions we perform or simply connecting at corporate meetings.

Acts 2:42-47 John 15:14 Hebrews 10:16

Marriage and Family

Marriage and family are God's idea. We place a strong emphasis on both of them, believing that strong marriages result in healthy families. We long to be able to show our city that strong and happy families and marriages are possible in God's Kingdom.

Ephesians 5:25-32 teaches us that marriage is a picture of the church and gives clear instructions on how marriage and family should work.

Genesis 1:26-28 Ephesians 5:25-32 Matthew 19:4

Children

Children are the future of the church and our nation and we therefore devote much time to our children's ministry during our Sunday morning services. Here the children are safe and given an opportunity to grow in the knowledge of God, and connect with old and new friends.

Jesus said, "Let the children come to me. Don't stop them! For the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to those who are like these children."

Matthew 19:14

Reaching the Lost

Ephesians 4:12 tells us that the work of an evangelist is to prepare God's people for the work of the ministry. Whilst there are people with the gift of evangelism in the church, we believe that reaching the lost is the God-given responsibility of everyone in the church.

Acts 2:46-47 2 Timothy 4:5 Romans 15:16-20
